If you were in worship Sunday, you heard me preach on Luke 10: 38-42. I have a lot of affection for Mary and Martha because Jesus loved this family (John 11:5). It was their brother Lazarus that Jesus raised from the dead after he had been in the tomb for three days. Both sisters seem to feel comfortable enough with Jesus that they can call him to task on the matters at hand. In this story in Luke, Martha says to him, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself. Tell her to help me!” Tell her?

This week my dad, who is really knowledgeable in construction, came to visit to help us with our front door. In the old house where we live, the door wasn’t quite fitting in its frame anymore. I called my dad to ask what to do, and he offered to come, take a look, diagnose the problem, and fix it.
